Saving a memory

Saving a memory

One amazing aspect of working in photography are the stories that accompany the pictures…the sunny holiday where you tried calamari for the first time…that day you decided to take a 4 mile hike with the dog and it poured down so you took refuge in that little cafe with the amazing hot chocolate…..the moment your child took their first steps…all these wonderful moments captured forever with the glorious medium of photography.

With older imagery often the only version we have is a print which is susceptible to damage, wear and fading, seeing this with some of my own family photographs led me to want to use the skills I have developed in image manipulation to be able to restore and digitise imagery in order to preserve and retain important memories - some of which only exist as prints.  Key to this for me has been learning about the history behind the images, who the people are, why the images are important, what memories are attached?

Whenever people look into their own family history it is surprising how often an interesting story emerges, intrigue, drama and incredible connections.  To help ensure that these important memories are saved to be enjoyed for future generations is a real privilege.

I have been working with some fantastic imagery, with some wonderful characters and stories that almost inspire a novel - maybe it will bring out my inner Jane Austen!
